When to Downsize Canopies
If you've decided it's time to buy your first canopy consider this and ask yourself these questions:

Will I be jumping as much in the slow season?
Make sure you can handle your canopy safely after taking a long break, down sizing when you jump a lot is fine if you stay consistent.

Have I landed my current canopy in a difficult spot, of dz, down wind etc?
Putting a lot of jumps on a canopy and landing it were you want to (on the dz every time) may not have had you push the canopy and you to the limits. Know what you have and can handle. You should know the full range of the canopy you already own before buying something smaller.

Take your time! Try before you buy! Your local gear store will have rentals for you to test jump. Make a commitment to jumping it as much as you can for your day rental fee. You should feel safe with your purchase and still know you have so much more you can do with it.
Ask a qualified instructor to observe you landings and ask for tips!
